Andrew Southgate serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Nursing and Midwifery at Canterbury Christ Church University's School of Nursing, Midwifery, Allied and Public Health. Since joining CCCU in 2010, he currently holds the role of School Engagement Lead, ensuring student feedback directly informs course and module improvements through collaboration with Course Directors and Module Leaders.
His research focuses on mentoring, leadership, complex care, and collaborative practice, grounded in extensive clinical experience spanning orthopaedic trauma nursing, acute spinal injury units, high dependency care, and emergency settings. International engagement forms a core component of his work, having lectured in Vietnam and Japan while facilitating student exchanges to Belgium, Japan, and the USA as former Lead for Internationalisation.
As an active contributor to nursing scholarship, Southgate serves as a book reviewer for Nursing Times and peer reviewer for Teaching and Learning in Nursing journal. His leadership in student engagement and internationalisation reflects a commitment to evolving nursing education through practical clinical integration and global perspectives.
