Dr. Andrew Sauerwein is a Professor of Music (Composition/Theory) at Belhaven University, where he has taught since 2005. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Music Composition from Duke University, an M.Mus. and B.Mus. from the University of Oregon, and an A.A. in Biblical Literature from Multnomah University.
His research focuses on music composition spanning orchestral, chamber, solo instrumental, and choral works; music theory pedagogy; and the intersection of sacred music with contemporary forms. He frequently incorporates improvisation and cross-disciplinary collaborations (theatre, dance) into his creative practice.
Awards include the Mississippi Humanities Teacher Award and an Artist Fellowship. He founded New Music Jackson and serves as faculty advisor for the BU New Music Society.
