Andrew Palko

Andrew Palko, EdD, is an Assistant Professor in the Health Science program at Saint Vincent College’s Herbert W. Boyer School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Computing. Drawing on more than two decades as a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and educator spanning NCAA Divisions I–III, professional athletics, and clinical practice, he prepares students for careers in physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, and exercise science.

Research Interests

Dr. Palko’s scholarship is dedicated to improving athlete health and safety through evidence-based inquiry. His primary agenda revolves around enhancing patient-reported outcomes in mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) by critically evaluating diagnostic and therapeutic tools. A complementary focus explores the neurological and cognitive consequences of repetitive subconcussive head impacts (RHI) in contact sports—an emerging area with significant implications for long-term brain health. Earlier investigations examined the frequency, magnitude, and short-term behavioral effects of RHI across a collegiate football season.

Teaching & Mentorship

Through rigorous mentorship and experiential learning, Dr. Palko guides students in bridging theory with real-world application. His courses—ranging from Introduction to Health Science and Medical Terminology to Kinesiology and Anatomy, Healthcare Systems, and Acute Care and Emergency Response—foster critical thinking and ethical grounding essential for success in today’s evolving healthcare landscape.
