Andrew Noakes

Andrew Noakes is an Assistant Professor in Automotive Journalism at Coventry University, serving as Course Director for the Automotive Journalism postgraduate program. He holds a B.Eng (Hons) in Automotive Engineering and a Diploma in Industrial Studies from Loughborough University, complemented by industry experience at Ford Motor Company. His career spans over three decades in motoring journalism, technical editing, and editorial leadership roles at publications like Fast Car and Classics Monthly. Noakes has authored/co-authored over 20 books on automotive topics, earning prestigious awards such as the Guild of Motoring Writers’ Timo Makinen Trophy (2007). He actively contributes to industry organizations, including serving as chairman of the Guild of Motoring Writers (2016–2018) and committee member of the Midland Group of Motoring Writers.

His research interests focus on automotive history, technical analysis of classic and modern vehicles, and the intersection of engineering innovation with motoring culture. Notable works include Ford Cosworth DFV: The Inside Story of F1’s Greatest Engine and Aston Martin DB - 70 Years. He frequently engages in public speaking, such as the ‘Driving Forces’ panel at Hong Kong’s GREAT Festival of Innovation (2018).
