Andrew Newman is an Associate Professor of Cultural Anthropology and Undergraduate Program Director at Wayne State University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the CUNY Graduate Center (2011). His research focuses on urban ethnography, historical anthropology, and collaborative/participatory research methods, with a focus on Detroit and Paris. Key themes include race, inequality, urban ecology, foodways, and the colonial legacies shaping urban visual culture.
His current project, *Empire’s Garden*, examines how 19th-century French anthropological research on race influenced Paris's visual culture and vice versa.
