Professor Andrew Morris is a Professor of Human Factors in Transport Safety and Director of Research at Loughborough University’s School of Design and Creative Arts. He also serves as Director of Internationalisation for the Loughborough Design School and holds a Visiting Professor position at Hasselt University in Belgium. His academic journey includes a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s in Ergonomics from the University of Birmingham, following his undergraduate studies at York University.
His research focuses on human factors in transport safety, behavioral safety, and injury prevention. He leads the Behavioural Safety Research and Injury Prevention Research Group and has pioneered projects such as developing screening tests for dementia-related driving impairments. Key achievements include the US Government Special Award of Appreciation (2009) for contributions to motor vehicle safety and a shared Vice-Chancellor’s award for partnerships promoting impactful collaborations.
Recent work spans automated vehicle integration, urban mobility sustainability, and pedestrian safety in automated systems. He actively engages with policy-making through initiatives like the Enhanced Crash Investigation Study (ECIS), aiming to reduce serious injury crashes through evidence-based approaches. His interdisciplinary projects bridge engineering, public health, and behavioral science, addressing challenges in modern transport systems.
