About
Dr Andrew McIntyre is an IODP Research Associate at the University of Leicester's School of Geography, Geology and the Environment. He holds a BSc in Geography and Geology (University of Leicester, 2016), an MSc in Geochemistry (University of St Andrews, 2017), and a PhD from The Open University (2022), focusing on reconstructing Eocene Atlantic Ocean circulation. His research integrates geochemical and micropaleontological methods to study ocean circulation dynamics and climate responses to rapid change.
McIntyre contributes to International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) operations, including planning Mission Specific Platforms (MSPs) and organizing the ECORD Summer School on Downhole Logging. He advises the IODP community on physical properties and logging data, supporting expeditions like IODP 390/393, which investigated hydrothermal fluid-rock interactions, microbial communities, and Cenozoic climate shifts.
- Key Expertise: Cenozoic paleoceanography, IODP expedition logistics, and interdisciplinary Earth systems analysis.
