Andrew Koff, PhD, is a molecular biologist at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, leading the Molecular Biology Program within the Gerstner Sloan Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms governing cell cycle regulation, particularly the roles of CDK inhibitors in differentiation, development, and cancer biology.
Key research areas include senescence, quiescence, and the transition between reversible and irreversible cell cycle exit (SAGA). Recent work has uncovered clinical implications of SAGA, identifying CDH18 and PDLIM7 as critical regulators of MDM2 turnover in CDK4/6 inhibitor therapy. His lab is exploring CDH18 as a biomarker for drug response prediction and combinatorial therapies targeting HRAS activity in CDH18-negative patients.
Current projects span liposarcoma, breast cancer, and other malignancies, aiming to understand how quiescent cells maintain re-entry capacity. Collaborations with clinical teams ensure translational applications of findings, aligned with the goal of "More Science, Less Fear."
