About
Andrew Jordan is aProfessor andCo-Director of the Institute for Quantum Studies atChapman University's Schmid College of Science and Technology. Previously, he was aProfessor of Physics at theUniversity of Rochester (2006-2021) after earning hisPhD in Theoretical Physics (2002) fromUniversity of California, Santa Barbara andBS in Physics and Mathematics (1997) fromTexas A&M University.
- NSF CAREER Award (2009)
- Simons Fellow in Theoretical Physics (2017)
Research Focus
His work spansquantum measurement theory, superconducting qubit design, andquantum thermoelectric phenomena. Recent publications examineKerr-cat qubit stabilization, quantum refrigeration cycles, andsupergrowth optical field generation for subwavelength imaging. Key technical innovations includeon-chip band-block filters for reduced Purcell decay andphase-modulated quantum gates in cat qubit systems.
Scientific Impact
- 2024 Nature Physics paper on programmable Heisenberg interactions between Floquet qubits
- 2024 Physical Review X demonstration of 2D Kerr-cat qubit with 99.6% QND readout
- 2025 arXiv preprint introducing STS-based Kerr-cat architecture with 10ms coherence times
His research group investigatesnoise-biased quantum error correction andquantum control protocols that leveragenonlinear quantum systems andparametric Hamiltonian engineering. Current projects involveintegrated quantum sensing devices andthermodynamically optimized measurement engines.
