Andrew J. Anderson

Andrew J. Anderson, MD, is a Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). He holds dual roles as a practicing emergency medicine physician at the state's only Level I Trauma Center and an educator, training residents and pre-hospital personnel. His career spans over 30 years, beginning as a volunteer firefighter and progressing through paramedic roles, ambulance supervision, and academic appointments.

Education highlights include an MD from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine (2003), Emergency Medicine residency at UMMC (2007), and prior certifications in paramedicine and mechanical engineering. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and holds licenses in Mississippi since 2005.

Research interests focus on tactical medicine, ballistics injury analysis, trauma care, and pre-hospital emergency systems. Notable projects include studies on ballistic vest efficacy for law enforcement and cadaveric modeling of cervical spine injuries during helmet removal. He has authored over 10 peer-reviewed articles since 2006, with recent work emphasizing forensic aspects of gunshot wounds and tactical medicine.

Teaching contributions include directing ultrasound training programs, serving as ACLS medical director, and instructing national tactical medicine courses. He has advised numerous resident training programs and maintains active involvement in EMS protocol development at state and national levels.
