Andrew Haley

Andrew P. Haley is an Associate Professor in the School of Humanities at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he also serves as Faculty Ombud. He specializes in American class, culture, and cuisine from the Gilded Age through the 1950s.

He earned his doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh and a BA from Tufts University. His award-winning book, 'Turning the Tables,' examines how restaurant culture reflected middle-class ascendancy.

His current research focuses on documenting community life through local cookbooks, particularly exploring Southern foodways and immigrant culinary traditions. His interdisciplinary approach bridges cultural history, women's studies, and material culture.

Haley's publications analyze the intersection of food, class, and identity in American history. His works trace the evolution of dining practices, immigrant culinary adaptation, and the historical significance of cookbooks as cultural artifacts.

He received the James Beard Award (2012), Mississippi Humanities Council Teaching Award (2012), and was named Moorman Distinguished Professor (2019-2021). Haley teaches diverse courses on American history, food history, popular culture, and historiography.
