Andrew Fowler

Andrew Fowler is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Limerick, Ireland. He is also a member of the Centre for Research Training in Foundations of Data Science and the Mathematics Applications Consortium for Science and Industry (MACSI). With a career spanning decades, his work bridges applied mathematics and real-world geoscientific challenges, from glaciology to industrial modeling.

His research began with a doctoral thesis on Glacier dynamics in 1977, and has since expanded to encompass mathematical geoscience, geophysics, volcanology, and mathematical biology. Fowler’s interests are not confined to Earth sciences; he has also contributed to biological and physiological modeling, reflecting the breadth of applied mathematics.

At Limerick, he teaches advanced courses in Mathematical Biology and Physiology and Mathematical Geoscience for the M.Sc. in Mathematical Modelling. He also co-teaches the undergraduate course Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena with colleagues Iain Moyles and Josh Duley, emphasizing interdisciplinary problem-solving.

His recent publications (2023–2024) focus heavily on ice sheet dynamics, glacial flow modeling, and asymptotic methods in diffusion, indicating a sustained and evolving research trajectory in cryospheric and geophysical mathematics.
