Andrew Fleming

Andrew Fleming is a Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computing at the University of Newcastle, where he directs the Precision Mechatronics Lab. His research focuses on nanopositioning systems, atomic force microscopy, and piezoelectric actuator design.

He has authored three books on nanopositioning technologies and holds patents impacting precision instrumentation worldwide. Recent innovations include techniques for high-speed imaging, subsurface characterization, and soft robotic control.

Honors include the IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology Outstanding Paper Award and University Researcher of the Year. His lab has secured over $10M in funding from ARC and industry partners.

Research outputs demonstrate consistent focus on enhancing precision, speed, and reliability in nanoscale positioning and imaging technologies.
