Andrew Campbell is an Associate Professor of Critical Studies and Director of the MA Curatorial Practices and the Public Sphere at the University of Southern California. His work centers LGBTQ communities and archives in art and design history, with a focus on queer theory, performance art, and cultural memory. He is the author of Bound Together (2020) and Queer X Design (2019), and co-editor of Queer Communion: Ron Athey (2020), recognized as a top art book by The New York Times.
His research explores intersections between art, design, and social activism, with recent projects including the Live Artists Live III performance program (2020) and upcoming exhibitions on artists Susan Silton and Beverly Buchanan. Campbell is a 2021/2022 DesignInquiry Fellow and will curate the Artpace International Artist-In-Residence program in 2022.
Publications appear in Artforum, GLQ, and X-TRA. Current projects include a history of design exhibitions with Jessica Brier and a study on poverty's impact on artistic practice in the U.S.
