Andrew C. Rajca

Andrew C. Rajca is an Associate Professor of Portuguese and Spanish in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of South Carolina, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. His research intersects Latin American Cultural Studies, Critical Theory, and Aesthetics.

• Education: Ph.D. from the University of Arizona (2010).

Research Focus: Rajca examines themes such as memory, violence, human rights, ecological aesthetics, and spatial politics in contemporary Latin American visual and literary cultures. His work critically engages with postdictatorship memory in Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay through art installations in former detention centers.

Publications: His notable book, Dissensual Subjects (2018), analyzes memory and human rights in postdictatorial contexts. Current projects explore cinematic aesthetics in São Paulo and ecological aesthetics in the Southern Cone. His articles cover Brazilian cinema, urban spatial practices, and postdictatorship trauma.

Teaching: He offers courses in Portuguese, Spanish, and Comparative Literature.
