Dr. Andrew Bumstead is an Assistant Professor of English at Buena Vista University. He holds a B.A. from Brigham Young University, an M.F.A. from Boston University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Utah. His research focuses on intersections of literature and media, particularly Disney adaptations of 19th-century British children's literature and the linguistic dynamics of Cape Verde's Creole languages. Current projects include an investigation into Cape Verde's postcolonial linguistic identity. He also writes screenplays and novels.
Teaching responsibilities include Written Communication I and II, Writing Seminar, British Literature, and Narrative in Entertainment Media. His scholarship has appeared in journals such as Texas Studies in Literature and Language, South Atlantic Review, and Journal of Comparative Studies.
Research interests combine postcolonial studies with media analysis, exploring how cultural narratives evolve through adaptation and media forms. Recent work examines power dynamics in theme parks and narrative techniques in classic literature.
