Andrew Amis

Andrew Amis is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering within Imperial College London's Faculty of Engineering. He joined Imperial in 1979 as a Lecturer after completing his PhD and postdoctoral research at the University of Leeds' Bioengineering Group for the Study of Human Joints. His primary affiliations include Applied Mechanics, Biomechanics, MSk Lab, Medical Engineering, and the Musculoskeletal Medical Engineering Centre.

Research interests focus on human joint biomechanics, encompassing prosthetic implant design (elbow, knee, radial head), artificial ligament development, joint stability analysis, and surgical kinematics measurement. Key contributions include double-bundle ligament reconstruction techniques and electromagnetic bone motion tracking systems. His work bridges mechanical engineering principles with clinical applications in orthopedics.
