Andreas Zecherle

Andreas Zecherle is a Researcher at the Institute of Church History within the Faculty of Theology at the University of Leipzig since March 2023. His responsibilities include academic research and semester planning at the faculty.

• Education:
  • First State Examination for teaching at grammar schools in Protestant Religious Education and German (2003–2007)
  • Doctorate in Theology (Dr. theol.) at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (2017), Dissertation: "The Reception of 'Theologia Deutsch' in the Late Middle Ages and the Early Reformation Period" (summa cum laude)

His research focuses on Late Medieval Mysticism and Its Reception, particularly the works of Meister Eckhart, Johannes Tauler, and the "Theologia Deutsch." Additional interests include Reformation History and Religious Policy in the Early Modern Period, with emphasis on interconfessional peace treaties like the Kappel Landfrieden and Nuremberg Decency.

Recent publications highlight his contributions to soteriology, mystical practices, and religious peacebuilding. His work spans theological analysis, historical exegesis, and archival research on late medieval and early modern religious texts.

  • Research Fellowship at the Leibniz Institute for European History in Mainz (2007–2011)

Zecherle has participated in multiple DFG-funded projects, including critical editions of Johannes Tauler's sermons and Lazarus Spengler's writings, alongside his current work on Late Middle Ages and Reformation historiography.
