About
Prof. Dr. Andreas Vilcinskas holds the W3 Professorship in Organic Chemistry at Heidelberg University and directs the Fraunhofer Project Group BioResources. His research integrates organic synthesis with materials science to develop functional π-electron systems for advanced applications.
Research pillars include: 1) Synthesis of heteroatom-doped carbon allotropes; 2) Bioactive compounds from insects; 3) Supramolecular architectures for optoelectronics. He coordinates the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centers SFB 953 (Synthetic Carbon Allotropes) and SFB 1249 (N-Heteropolycycles).
With over 100 publications, his work spans antimicrobial peptide discovery, graphene-related materials, and insect-derived biomolecules. He teaches advanced courses on synthetic methodologies and carbon nanomaterials. His team includes postdoctoral researchers and doctoral students working on molecular design, surface science, and device engineering.
