Prof. Dr. Andreas Victor Walser is an Associate Professor for the History of Ancient Civilizations from the Eastern Mediterranean to the Near East at the Department of History, University of Zurich, since 2022. His research focuses on Greek epigraphy, socio-ecological systems, and economic/religious history of antiquity.

His research examines Greek inscriptions as primary sources for political, economic, and religious structures in the Hellenistic and Roman periods, with key areas including the Pergamon micro-region, socio-ecological interaction, and legal continuity in Byzantine inscriptions. Publications include analyses of legal foundations, euergetism, and urban consolidation processes.
Scientific awards include a Volkswagen Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellowship and SNSF grant leadership. Collaborations span the German Archaeological Institute, University of Groningen, and epigraphic projects in Turkey. He teaches and publishes extensively on ancient economics, legal history, and interdisciplinary approaches to classical studies.
