Andreas Schablas

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Andreas Schablas is a Professor of Clarinet at the Mozarteum University Salzburg since 2017. He leads the Wind, Brass & Percussion Department while maintaining active roles as principal clarinetist in the Bavarian State Orchestra (since 2010) and former member of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. His musical career spans solo performances, orchestral work, and chamber music collaborations.

• Education: Johannes Brahms Music School (Mürzzuschlag) → Graz and Vienna Music Universities with mentors Kurt Daghofer, Peter Schmidl, and Johann Hindler.
• Performance Highlights: Premiered works by Friedrich Cerha including Eight Bagatelles, Clarinet Concerto, and Trio; performed at Vienna Musikverein, Konzerthaus, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and London's Wigmore Hall.

Research focuses on 20th-century clarinet repertoire and contemporary music creation, demonstrated through collaborations with composers like Wolfgang Rihm and Friedrich Cerha. Maintains artistic partnerships with Altenberg Trio Wien and Arcus Ensemble Wien.

Teaching activities include masterclasses at the International Summer Academy and Haus Marteau, blending pedagogy with performance practice. Active in new music through OENM (Austrian Ensembles for New Music).
