Andreas Lyberatos

Andreas Lyberatos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and History at Panteion University in Athens, Greece. He specializes in Modern Social and Economic History of the Balkans, with particular focus on Ottoman Thrace, nationalism, and urban development during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

His research examines state-society relations, economic transformations, and identity formation in the late Ottoman Empire and post-Ottoman Balkans. Key themes include nationalist mobilization in rural communities, the emergence of economic elites, Greek merchant networks, and cultural transfers related to modernization.

Lyberatos teaches courses on Modern History of the Balkans (18th c.-1923), Cities of the Balkans and Eastern Mediterranean (15th-19th c.), and Global Transformations and the Balkans at graduate level. His office is located in the Stassinopoulos Building (Room 305).
