Prof. Andreas Herrmann is Scientific Director at DWI - Leibniz Institute and Chair of Macromolecular Materials at RWTH Aachen. His lab merges synthetic chemistry, molecular biology, and materials science to develop ultrasound-activated biomedical technologies.
Pioneered sonopharmacology—using biocompatible ultrasound to trigger drug release—and engineered DNA-based carriers for precision therapies. Current projects include diabetes treatment, cancer immunotherapy, and tissue regeneration via gene expression control.
Recipient of dual ERC Advanced Grants (2024, 2016) and 10+ international awards for innovations in nanomedicine. Leads interdisciplinary teams across Europe in EU-funded initiatives like SONOPHARMAGEN.
