Andreas Fischer

Dr. Andreas Fischer is a Researcher at the Zoological Institute and Museum of the University of Greifswald, specializing in chemical ecology within the Department of General and Systematic Zoology.

Research Interests: His work focuses on spider communication via taste and smell, particularly in the neurotoxin-producing widow-subfamily Latrodectinae. He investigates sex pheromones, mate-call mechanisms, and natural semiochemicals to develop integrated pest management solutions for urban spiders, aiming to reduce pesticide misuse driven by arachnophobia.

Methodology: Employs non-targeted metabolomics using HRMS-HPLC and GC/MS to analyze chemical signals in spider communication. His prime interest is identifying compounds that attract or deter spiders.
