Andreas Eberth

Prof. Dr. Andreas Eberth holds the professorship for Geography with a focus on Education for Sustainable Development at the University of Passau since March 2023. Previously, he served as a research associate at Leibniz University Hannover and acting professor at Justus Liebig University Giessen. As chair of the Academic Association for Geography Education, he promotes nationwide geographical education.

Education: Studied Geography, German Studies, and Educational Sciences at the University of Trier. Taught at St. Ursula School in Hanover and completed preparatory service for teaching at Trier Teacher Training College.

Research Interests: Focuses on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), spatial theories, visual geographies, anti-racist education, postcolonial perspectives, and post-growth economies. Regional expertise includes Germany and East Africa, particularly Kenya.

Projects: Leads the BMBF-funded 'moreBNE' project developing open educational resources for sustainability education. Coordinated the 'Gen Zukunft' project exploring youth perspectives on socio-ecological transformation. Organized field trips to East Africa integrating participatory research methods.

Grants & Collaborations: Recipient of German Research Foundation (DFG) funding for spatial transformation studies. Collaborates with institutions like the Leibniz University Hannover and the DISC Initiatives in Kenya.

Labs/Teams: Heads the Geography section at the University of Passau, supervising research on transformative education and spatial dynamics. Active in international conferences and editorial roles for journals like Geographica Helvetica and Praxis Geographie.
