Andreas Dugstad Sanders

Andreas Dugstad Sanders is a university lecturer in the Department of Modern Social History at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). He is also affiliated with the Department of Language and Literature. His primary research is conducted within the "Political Regulation of Natural Resources 1870–2010, Global Experiences" project, part of the larger "Fate of Nations" initiative.

His academic background includes a master's degree in history from NTNU and a PhD from the European University Institute (2018). His doctoral dissertation explored resource nationalism in Sweden and Norway between 1888 and 1936.

Sanders’ research focuses on the historical development of resource governance, particularly mineral rights, from a global and comparative perspective. His main areas of interest include resource nationalism, regulation of natural resources, international political economy, Scandinavian political history, and occupation history during World War II. He has extensively studied how states assert control over natural wealth, especially in the Nordic context.

The analysis of his recent publications reveals a consistent focus on the political economy of natural resources across time. His work spans themes such as the evolution of mineral regulations, state responses to globalization, foreign investment policies, and the role of strategic resources in wartime economies. A significant portion of his research examines Norway’s historical trajectory in managing natural resources, offering insights into democratic governance and economic sovereignty.

He has contributed to academic discourse through numerous scholarly book chapters and journal articles, particularly in the fields of economic and business history. His collaborations with researchers like Pål Thonstad Sandvik, Espen Storli, and Mats Ingulstad highlight his integration into a strong research network.

Andreas Dugstad Sanders has been actively involved in public dissemination, including radio programs such as "Kraftlandet" and "Krafta vår," where he discusses Norwegian hydropower history and national control over energy resources. He previously served as editor of the journal Trondhjemske Samlinger, published by Trondhjems Historiske Forening.
