About
Andrea I. Silverman is an Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, with joint affiliation at NYU's Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP). Her research protects public health through water quality innovation, pathogen detection/disinfection, and urban flood resilience.
Laboratory and field work spans New York City, Ghana, and Kenya, addressing wastewater treatment, fecal sludge reuse, and natural disinfection mechanisms. She co-directs NYC's FloodNet project deploying real-time flood sensors and led wastewater surveillance for COVID-19 with NYC DEP.
Publications demonstrate expertise in sunlight-mediated pathogen inactivation, wastewater epidemiology, and sensor applications for flood impact mitigation. Recent work includes SARS-CoV-2 monitoring during NYC's pandemic waves.
