Andrea Purdy

Andrea Purdy is an Associate Teaching Professor of Spanish and Undergraduate Coordinator in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Culture at Colorado State University. She has been at CSU since 1999 and holds a Ph.D. in 20th Century Spanish American Literature from Texas Tech University (1987). Her expertise includes contemporary Spanish American prose, language pedagogy, and cultural studies.

Her research interests focus on translation studies, language for specific purposes, and the integration of community outreach into language education. She emphasizes culturally responsive teaching practices and supports Latinx student success at an emerging Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).

As Program Coordinator, she oversees curriculum development and student advising. She teaches intermediate Spanish courses (LSPa 200) emphasizing the 5 Cs framework: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities.

Dr. Purdy is actively involved in education abroad credit evaluations and coordinates the department's community engagement initiatives linking language learning with global citizenship.
