Andrea Newmark is a Professor and Chair of the Chemistry Department at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. She joined the institution in 1987 after earning her B.A. in Chemistry from Queens College, CUNY, and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry from Columbia University.
Her professional contributions include active involvement with the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), both at the national level and through Cooper Union's student chapter. She has dedicated efforts to science education outreach, bringing Cooper students into local classrooms to teach basic chemistry concepts and organizing "Science Shows" for elementary school children. Additionally, she participates in SWE's "Kids in Engineering Program" to inspire young learners.
Outside academia, she volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, contributing to housing projects in Guatemala, New Orleans, and Suffolk County, Long Island.
