Andrea Most

Andrea Most is Professor of English and Jewish Studies at the University of Toronto, with affiliations to the Centre for Jewish Studies, School of the Environment, Department for the Study of Religion, Centre for the Study of the United States, and Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies. Her work bridges experiential education, land-based research, and community advocacy.

Her research integrates Environmental Humanities, Jewish Studies, and Popular Culture Critique, focusing on:

• Ecocritical re-interpretations of biblical myths (e.g., In a Beginning project)
• Jewish identity in American theatre and media
• Permacultural practices and sustainability narratives
• Interdisciplinary responses to climate change

Recent publications explore permacultural subjectivity, theatrical liberalism, and Jewish foodways. She received the Northrop Frye Award (2016) and Ludwig and Estelle Jus Prize (2022) for teaching and community leadership. As director of the SSHRC-funded Persephone Project and co-founder of Bela Farm, she merges academic inquiry with artistic performance and environmental advocacy.
