Andrea Koschinsky-Fritsche

Andrea Koschinsky-Fritsche is a Professor of Geosciences at Constructor University (formerly Jacobs University Bremen). With a career spanning over three decades, she specializes in marine geochemistry, focusing on trace metal behavior, hydrothermal systems, and deep-sea mineral resources. Her work bridges analytical geochemistry, experimental studies, and thermodynamic modeling, contributing to understanding biogeochemical cycles and environmental impacts of deep-sea mining.

Education:

Her research explores trace metal dynamics in marine environments, including adsorption on mineral phases, hydrothermal fluid geochemistry, and metal-organic complexation. Recent work examines environmental implications of polymetallic nodule mining and metal cycling in estuarine systems like the Amazon plume. Collaborations span institutions in Germany, New Zealand, Brazil, and the U.S., with participation in 11 oceanographic cruises.

Scientific awards include the Viktor-Moritz-Goldschmidt Medal (2004) and the Geochemical Journal Award (2010). She has supervised numerous diploma and doctoral theses and serves on editorial boards for journals in marine science and geochemistry. Her teaching includes courses in Integrated Environmental Studies and Earth and Space Sciences at Constructor University.
