Prof. Dr. Andrea Kern is a Professor of the History of Philosophy at the University of Leipzig, leading the Institute of Philosophy since 2009. She specializes in epistemology, philosophical anthropology, and German Idealism, with a focus on Aristotle, Kant, and Wittgenstein. Her research includes directing the 'Anthropological Difference' project and co-leading the Analytic German Idealism Research College (FAGI). She has held visiting roles at institutions like the University of Chicago and Berkeley, and was a Humboldt Professor (2017–2022). Her work bridges historical and contemporary philosophical debates, emphasizing the interplay between theory and practice.
Education: Studied Philosophy, German Studies, and Film/Theater Studies in Berlin, Paris, and Bochum. Habilitation from the University of Potsdam (2004).
Research Interests: Skepticism, perception, and the foundations of knowledge. Current projects include exploring Kantian ethics, aesthetic experience, and the philosophical implications of AI through her supervision of doctoral projects like 'Rational Subjectivity and Artificial Intelligence.'
