Andrea Gawrich

Prof. Dr. Andrea Gawrich is a Professor for International Integration with a special focus on Eastern Europe at the Justus Liebig University Giessen, Department of Political Science. Her research emphasizes security policy, democracy promotion, conflict studies, and the roles of regional organizations like the EU, OSCE, and NATO. She leads major projects such as the EU-funded SHAPEDEM-EU and the LOEWE-funded study on conflict management in Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova.

Education:

• PhD in Political Science from Ruhr University Bochum (2002) on ethnic minorities in Poland's transformation.
• Habilitation (2011) with a study on democracy promotion strategies in the Council of Europe and OSCE.
• Masters in Modern History, Social/Economic History from Ruhr University Bochum (1997).

Research Interests: Focuses on post-Soviet security dynamics, EU neighborhood policies, and comparative analysis of regional organizations. Her work explores conflict management mechanisms, democratic backsliding, and the intersection of international integration and territorial conflicts.
