Andrea Benvenuti is an Associate Professor in International Relations at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), affiliated with the School of Social Sciences within the Arts, Design & Architecture (ADA) faculty. He holds a Laurea in Political Science and International Studies (University of Florence, Italy), an MA by research (Monash University, Australia), and a D.Phil in International Relations (Oxford University, UK). His teaching covers Diplomacy and Statecraft, Great and Emerging Powers, and The Foreign Policies of the Great Powers.
His research focuses on post-1945 international history, with specific emphasis on the Cold War in Asia and Europe, non-alignment, and regional order. Key publications include sole- and co-authored books on China's Foreign Policy and Nehru's Bandung, alongside chapters on US Diplomacy in Asia, Taiwan and the Great Powers, and EU-Australia Relations. Current projects examine Nehru and Sukarno's leadership in postcolonial Asia and the impact of Western military power on Asian order between 1919-1989.
His scholarly contributions align with historical and military analyses of Western geopolitical strategies. He is supported by a National University of Singapore/Ministry of Education Research Grant (2015-2020) for collaborative studies on Western Military Power and the Shaping of Asia. Supervision includes theses on Australian foreign policy.
