About
Andre Mateus is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry, Umeå University, and an affiliated researcher at Molecular Infection Medicine Sweden (MIMS). His work focuses on mapping protein function in human gut microbiome species using proteomics and systems biology approaches, including thermal proteome profiling.
- Current projects include Proteome-wide functional interrogation and modulation of gut microbiome species (ProFITGut), Metabolism of carbohydrates by human gut microbiome species, and Proteome functional characterization of the Archaeal microbiome.
- Awardee of the Wallenberg Academy Fellow title (2024) and recipient of an ERC Starting Grant for microbiome research.
His lab integrates proteomic data to understand microbial protein interactions, drug mechanisms, and nutrient metabolism. This research aims to develop strategies for manipulating gut microbiome composition toward healthy states. He teaches the Biochemistry: Protein structure and function course at Umeå University.
