Anat Schechtman

Anat Schechtman serves as Associate Professor of Philosophy within the Department of Philosophy at the College of Liberal Arts, University of Texas at Austin. Previously, she held faculty positions at the University of Chicago and University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Her scholarly work centers on seventeenth-century philosophy with particular emphasis on the intersections of metaphysics, mathematics, and theology. Dr. Schechtman's research investigates theories of substance, dependence, infinity, and being through critical examination of Descartes, Spinoza, Locke, and Leibniz.

She teaches core philosophy courses including Early Modern Philosophy (PHL 301L), Spinoza's Philosophical Systems (PHL 365), History of Modern Philosophy (PHL 381), and Philosophy & Meaning of Life (UGS 303) across multiple semesters from Fall 2022 through Fall 2024.

Dr. Schechtman earned her PhD from Yale University and her BSc from Tel Aviv University, maintaining an active presence in early modern philosophical scholarship through teaching and research.
