About
Dr. Anat Pick is a Reader in Film Studies at Queen Mary University of London, affiliated with the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film. Her work focuses on animal studies, ecocinema, and non-anthropocentric film philosophy. She teaches modules on ecocinemas, US cinema, and the visual essay, emphasizing ethical engagement with the environment and non-human life. Pick’s research integrates continental philosophy, particularly Simone Weil’s thought, to explore cinema’s relationship with nature and vulnerability. She co-edited Screening Nature: Cinema Beyond the Human and authored Creaturely Poetics, advocating for a 'creaturely' approach to media studies. Her current book project examines Weil’s influence on cinema’s capacity for ethical, non-violent representation. Pick is a member of Queen Mary’s Centre for Film and Ethics, contributing to interdisciplinary discussions on film, religion, and ecology.
