About
Anastasios Karadimitris serves as Professor of Haematology and Co-Director of the Centre for Haematology at Imperial College London's Faculty of Medicine, Department of Immunology and Inflammation. Based at Hammersmith Campus (Commonwealth Building, 4S10C), he leads the Karadimitris Laboratory within the Langmuir Myeloma Centre and maintains affiliations with six major institutional networks: Cancer Technology Network, Centre for Advanced Therapeutics, Immuno-Pathology Network, Membrane Receptor Network, and dual Centre for Haematology roles.
His research program integrates three synergistic domains: (1) Molecular pathogenesis of multiple myeloma focusing on myeloma propagating cells, transcription factor deregulation, and osteoclast-mediated bone disease; (2) Glycolipid-specific T-cell biology investigating invariant NKT cells in allogeneic stem cell transplantation for CD1d+ malignancies and GPI-specific T cells in paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria; (3) Transcriptional/epigenetic regulation of housekeeping genes using inherited GPI deficiency and glycolytic disorders as disease models. His laboratory employs genomics, advanced flow-cytometry, animal models, and systems biology approaches through active collaboration with Prof Michael Stumpf's Theoretical Systems Biology group.
Clinically, Professor Karadimitris leads phase III trials and partners with pharmaceutical industry to develop early-phase I/II clinical trials for lymphoma and myeloma. His translational research bridges molecular discoveries with therapeutic applications for haematological malignancies, emphasizing collaborative science across basic and clinical domains.
