Ana S. Fernandes is an Associate Professor at the School of Health Sciences and Technologies of Universidade Lusófona, where she has been Director of the Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences since 2024. She leads the Models & Mechanisms Lab at CBIOS Research Center and holds a Habilitation in Pharmacy-Toxicology (2025) alongside a PhD in Pharmacy-Toxicology (2010) and a European Registered Toxicologist title (2018).
Her research focuses on redox biology in cancer, particularly how redox modulators like MnTnHex-2-PyP5+ and natural compounds influence cancer cell proliferation, migration, and response to therapies. Recent work spans HER2+ breast cancer treatment outcomes, redox-active drug effects on lung cancer metabolomes, and foodborne xenoestrogens' role in metastasis. She has published over 90 peer-reviewed papers and contributed to five special issues as guest editor.
Key trends in her publications include redox therapeutics, oxidative stress in oncology, and toxicological safety of consumer products. She has supervised 28 master’s dissertations and four PhD theses, with current supervision of four PhD and three master’s students. Her leadership roles in COST Actions (EU-ROS, NutRedOx) and evaluation panels for research grants and fellowships highlight her institutional impact.
