Ana Maria Rebelo Barreto Xavier is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Aveiro, Portugal. Her research focuses on microbial technology, biotechnological processes for enzyme production, bioethanol from lignocellulosic biomass, and biorefinery systems. She has contributed significantly to valorizing pulp and paper industry by-products, enzyme immobilization in nanoparticles, and ligninolytic activity applications.
Her academic journey includes a PhD in Biological Engineering from the University of Lisbon (1996) and a Licenciatura in Applied Chemistry. She joined the University of Aveiro in 1996 as an Assistant Professor.
Key projects include the EU-funded INPACTUS (2018–2022) and MULTISMART (2018–2022), focusing on bio-based products from eucalypt and multifunctional membranes. She collaborates with institutions like the University of Coimbra and The Navigator Company.
