Ana Islam, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Endocrine Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Her clinical and research focus includes thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal gland disorders. She joined UT Southwestern's faculty in 2019 following specialized training in endocrine surgery.
Education: B.A. in Economics from Stanford University; M.D. from UT Southwestern Medical Center (inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha); General Surgery Residency at Houston Methodist Hospital (with a research fellowship at J.C. Walter Jr. Transplant Center); and an Endocrine Surgery Fellowship at UT Southwestern.
Research interests include post-parathyroidectomy kidney stones, robotic vs. laparoscopic adrenalectomy, weight gain after pancreas transplantation, and immunological challenges in lung transplantation. She is passionate about medical education, having earned teaching distinctions for mentoring students and residents.
Awards: Recipient of the Hudson Penn Award for Surgical Excellence and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society membership. Board-certified in General Surgery.
Professional affiliations include the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, American College of Surgeons, and Association of Women Surgeons.
