Ana Grenha is a Professor at the University of Algarve (UALG) and a Senior Researcher at the Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR). She holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Santiago de Compostela (2007) and obtained her Habilitation in Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Lisbon in 2022. Her research focuses on marine-derived biomaterials for drug delivery systems, with particular emphasis on polysaccharide nanoparticles, inhalation therapies, and antibacterial treatments. She leads the Marine Molecular Bioengineering group and has contributed to projects like GERMROS, exploring antioxidant capacities in spermatogonia. Awards include the inaugural UAlg Researcher Award 2022 and the Robalo Cordeiro Award for innovative vaccination research.
Prof. Grenha has supervised PhD students such as Susana Rodrigues and Ludmylla Cunha, and her work spans nanomedicine, respiratory drug delivery, and sustainable biomaterials from marine organisms. She actively participates in academic events, including thesis defenses and scientific conferences, and has published extensively on topics like fucoidan-based nanoparticles, chitosan microencapsulation, and tuberculosis therapy innovations.
