Dr. Ana Goode is a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences within the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Queensland. As an implementation scientist, she specializes in designing, implementing, and evaluating broad-reach health behavior change interventions in real-world settings, with expertise spanning health psychology, health promotion, and public health.
Her educational background includes a Bachelor (Honours), Masters (Coursework) of Public Health, and Doctor of Philosophy, all from The University of Queensland. Her research program focuses on translating evidence-based health behavior change programs—particularly in physical activity, dietary changes, and weight loss—into practice at local, state, and national levels, with a strong emphasis on end-user and stakeholder engagement and design thinking.
Dr. Goode's scholarly work demonstrates a consistent focus on implementation science, particularly in workplace settings where she serves as the lead implementation scientist for the BeUpstanding program—an evidence-based online initiative to reduce sitting time. Her research spans diabetes prevention, sedentary behavior reduction, and digital health interventions, with a methodological emphasis on user-centered design approaches and real-world implementation challenges.
As an active supervisor, she currently mentors three PhD students working on projects related to sedentary behavior in workers with disabilities, diabetes prevention programs, and workplace sedentary behavior in Indonesian tech companies. Her research is supported by significant funding including the NHMRC-Canadian Institutes of Health Research Healthy Cities Implementation Science Team Grants for 'Small Steps for Big Changes' (2023-2029), and previous grants from the NHMRC Partnership Projects and NIH.
Within her role, Dr. Goode leads the Healthy Lifestyle Consultancy group, providing knowledge leadership in health promotion through consultancy and training services to workplaces, health providers, and practitioners. Her work bridges academic research with practical application, focusing on how to effectively translate evidence into practice across diverse settings and populations.
