About
Amy Maclatchy is a Lecturer at the Centre for Education and Teaching Innovation (CETI), University of Westminster since 2023. She previously served as Module Leader for Biology at the University of Essex. Her academic background includes a First-Class Honours in Biochemistry (2015) and a PhD in Life Sciences from Westminster, where she developed nanoparticle drug delivery systems for brain diseases. She coordinates the Foundation Mentoring Scheme to foster student communities.
Education:
- PhD in Life Sciences, University of Westminster (2016–2020)
- BSc in Biochemistry with Foundation (First Class Honours), University of Westminster (2015)
Research Interests:
Maclatchy's work spans two domains: 1) Life Sciences—developing sunflower-oil nanoparticles for drug delivery across biological barriers (e.g., blood-brain barrier) and investigating extracellular vesicles in pathobiology; 2) Education—implementing partnership pedagogy, anti-racist curricula, and student belonging initiatives through co-creation frameworks.
Publication Trends:
Her recent articles (2019–2024) focus on molecular mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson's) and cancer (glioblastoma), emphasizing extracellular vesicles, protein modifications, and preclinical therapeutic strategies.
Labs & Teams:
She collaborates with the Pathobiology and Extracellular Vesicle Research Group, investigating molecular targets for human health within the One Health paradigm.
