About
Amy Lewis is a Visiting Scholar and Loeb Classical Library Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Arts & Sciences, Department of Classics. She holds a B.A. in Classics from University College London (UCL), an M.A. in Classics from Universiteit Leiden, and a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on Greek Old Comedy, particularly the concept of 'low comedy' in Aristophanes, and integrates comic fragments into broader scholarly discourse. She also explores Roman popular culture and the relationship between Roman literature and the African continent.
Her current project, "Scholiastic Approaches to Aristophanes' Frogs," analyzes interpretative networks in ancient scholia (e.g., Tzetzes, Triclinius, Thomas Magister). She has lectured on Aristophanes’ rivals Pherecrates and Phrynichus and has taught courses on ancient comedy and Roman cultural studies. No formal student advisees are listed, but her work is supported through the Loeb Classical Library Fellowship.
