Amy Bidwell

Amy Bidwell, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Promotion and Wellness at SUNY Oswego, serving as Undergraduate Advisement Coordinator and Nutrition Minor Coordinator. She holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Exercise Physiology and Science Education from Syracuse University, alongside a B.S. in Physical Education from SUNY Brockport.

Her research focuses on integrating positive psychology strategies, resilience training, and mindfulness into academic environments to enhance holistic student well-being. Key areas include behavior change, nutrition, exercise physiology, and post-traumatic growth. She leads a university-wide wellness initiative addressing the six dimensions of wellness through evidence-based behavioral interventions.

Dr. Bidwell's work bridges physical and mental health, with publications exploring fructose metabolism, physical activity's role in mitigating metabolic risks, yoga’s impact on asthma management, and behavioral coaching methodologies. She has authored peer-reviewed articles and textbooks on positive psychology in education, including a forthcoming book on trauma and resilience.

Her professional contributions extend to keynote speaking on topics like fostering student resilience and post-pandemic well-being, as well as media appearances discussing health-related topics. Current projects include a memoir on resilience and a textbook on positive psychology tools for educators.

Dr. Bidwell teaches courses on nutrition, exercise physiology, and wellness coaching, emphasizing practical applications of theory in real-world settings. She collaborates with campus stakeholders to design impactful wellness programs and has secured grants for obesity prevention initiatives.
