Amy Alvarez

Amy Alvarez serves as an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of English at West Virginia University. Hailing from New York, NY, with Puerto Rican and Jamaican heritage, she is a poet, traveler, and active community member.

Her research and creative work centers on poetry and literary traditions, with deep engagement in American, Caribbean, Puerto Rican, and Jamaican cultural narratives. This heritage profoundly shapes her pedagogical approach and artistic expression.

She actively participates in the following organizations:

• NAACP
• NOW

On campus, her preferred locations include all university libraries, Evansdale Crossing, and the downtown bowling alley. She maintains collaborative relationships with university resources such as the Women’s Resource Center, LGBTQ+ Center, Resilient Communities, Center for Black Culture, and WVU Advance to foster inclusive academic environments.
