About
Amrita Machwe, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Toxicology and Cancer Biology at the University of Kentucky. Her research focuses on understanding how DNA damage and genomic instability contribute to cancer and age-related diseases. She investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying RecQ helicase-deficient disorders such as Werner syndrome and Bloom syndrome, studying the roles of WRN and BLM proteins in DNA replication, recombination, and telomere maintenance. Her work aims to elucidate connections between genetic instability, aging, and carcinogenesis. Future research goals include determining the precise functions of WRN and BLM in DNA metabolism and their relevance to human aging and cancer development.
