Amrita Datta is an Assistant Professor of Development Studies at the Department of Liberal Arts, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH). Her research focuses on migration and mobilities, agrarian change, gender and development, rural development, and longitudinal studies.

Her book Migration and Development in India: The Bihar Experience (Routledge 2024) examines labor migration through a longitudinal study on rural Bihar. She is currently working on a book based on the Odisha Migration Study 2023, funded by the CGIAR Gender Platform.
Amrita has previously worked at Flame University, Institute for Human Development, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, and the Indian School of Microfinance for Women. Her research connects agrarian transformations with gendered labor dynamics in India’s neoliberal development context.
