Professor Amit Chakma is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Western Australia (UWA). Previously, he served as President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Western Ontario (2009-2019) and Provost and Vice-President Academic at the University of Waterloo (2001-2009). His research focuses on chemical engineering, environmental sustainability, and gas separation technologies, with contributions to carbon capture and storage, membrane technologies, and oil recovery processes. He chairs the UWA Defence and Security Institute and has led international advisory roles, including Canada’s International Education Strategy panel (2011-2013) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities Council (2017-2019).
